Module Description
This module encourages students to go beyond theory and become active participants in debates at the leading edge of managerial and leadership thinking and practice. The module will help students to evaluate and apply different leadership and management theories and to develop creative and innovative thinking in the application of relevant management models.
Module Aim
This module aims at equipping students with skills to critically understand and evaluate the role and contribution of leadership and management that they may apply in different public health situations.
Module Learning Outcomes
After completion of the module, students should be able to:
1. Examine a variety of leadership styles and strategies that are utilised for health improvement in different situations. Situations
2. Analyse the role and contribution of leadership and management in conceptualising, creating and inspiring innovation and practice in multi-disciplinary public health.
3. Identify opportunities for public health service improvement and engage critically with opportunities for innovation and positive change (with reference to Kotter’s 8-Step Change Model (Kotter, 2012)).
4. Develop a critical and integrated understanding of leadership and management within organisations.
5. Management of partnerships in public health
6. Apply appropriate research skills, critical thinking and effective organisational improvement techniques.
