Course Description:
This module introduces students to the concepts of strategic thinking and provides students the opportunity to experience the use of scenario planning in order to gain abilities of how to respond quickly and effectively to a dynamic environment, including the appropriate allocation and budgeting of financial resources.
Module Aim
The aim of the module is to provide an understanding of strategic planning, which is widely used by organizational leaders to overcome the challenges of a turbulent environment, and to explore the concepts, tools and practice of strategic planning, including through budgets and public finance.
Module Learning Outcomes
After completing the module students should be able to:
- Analyse the internal and external environment of an organization with which they are familiar;
- Generate a strategic plan for an organization with which they are familiar;
- Apply strategies for making strategic planning more effective;
- Design evaluation and review processes that need to be conducted in effective strategic planning processes;
- Explain the implications of the SWOT analysis for strategic planning;
- Identify and justify the dimensions of the internal logic (robustness) of a strategic plan.
- Appreciate elements of finance and its administration in the public sector and its relevance to strategic planning.
- Appreciate adherence to budgets and meeting of performance targets for the implementation of strategic plans.
