Course Description:
This module encourages students to approach insights into the theory and practice of governance. It gives the chance to students to go beyond the study of theory and become active participants in the debate that is at the leading edge of managerial and leadership thinking and practice. Furthermore, this module takes the discussion of strategy formulation and implementation beyond a simplistic appreciation of leadership's input into the process but looks at all the key actors in strategy and its practices.
Course Objectives
The main objectives of the course are:
- To provide an understanding of the increasingly complex range of perspectives, interests and arenas with which public policy makers and public managers are expected to work.
- To expose students to ways in which ideas about governance are shaping modern policy making.
- To describe and debate issues of public sector reform and ‘joined up’ government, policy networks, democracy and participation in public policy, the management of knowledge in the changing context will be highlighted and examined throughout both in the lecture content and in the engagement of students through workshops and case studies.
