Course Description:

Integrated Science II continues from Integrated Science I, to introduce student teachers to core content of science combining chemistry, physics, biology and agriculture. The module demonstrates the importance of science in the everyday life of individuals and its relation to the development of a nation. The module uses a scientific inquiry approach to promote critical thinking and enable decision making informed by scientific evidence. The elements of scientific inquiry deployed in the module are aimed at promoting healthy habits of questioning and using reason, enabling individuals and communities to create new knowledge, and to expand their opinions in light of new evidence. Part II of Integrated Science focuses on introductory elements of biology and agriculture


Module Aim
As with Integrated Science I, the aim of Integrated Science II is to introduce student teachers to core concepts, content, and teaching methods of science and scientific inquiry. Module II aims to equip student teachers teach integrated science, with basic elements of biology and agriculture, to primary school learners, and assess their progress in the understanding of science and scientific thinking. 


Module Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the module, student teachers should be able to:
Biology 
1.    Define organisms, plants and animals and their environments.
2.    Describe the human body and its systems.
3.    Demonstrate an understanding of healthy living and human diseases.
4.    Investigate the basics of animal biology.
5.    Investigate the interdependence of plants and animals.
6.    Demonstrate an understanding of evolution
Agriculture 
7.    Apply the methods of teaching agriculture content in primary school.
8.    Debate how agriculture is changing due to the climate crisis.
9.    Describe types of irrigation.
10.    Establish a school garden as a teaching and learning resource in agriculture.
11.    Discuss agricultural economics, business and marketing.
12.    Describe the concepts of agricultural engineering and farm mechanization.
13.    Discuss the principles of forestry and agroforestry.
