Medicines management has been defined as ‘the entire way that medicines are selected, procured, delivered, prescribed, administered and reviewed to optimize the contribution that medicines make to producing informed and desired outcomes of patient care’ (Audit Commission, 2001). It is central to healthcare.
Module Aim
This module aims at equipping students with skills to deal with the complex issues that arise out of medicine management
Module Learning Outcomes
After completing the module students should be able to:
1. Demonstrate critical awareness of the role of genetics and environmental pharmacological hazards on the integrity of an individual
2. Evaluate the role of therapeutics in health maintenance with particular reference to concordance and therapeutic drug monitoring
3. Apply an authoritative, in-depth, current and critical understanding of medicines management
4. Build upon existing theory, practical skills and research based knowledge of medicines management through reflective and evidence based practice, enhancing the foundation that supports their role
5. Integrate theory to practice making them an active, effective change agent in current government interventions/initiatives related to medicines management
