Continuous Teaching Practice IIModule Details
Module/Course Description
Course Title: Continuous Teaching Practice II
Course Code: UU-CTP(U)-2000-MW
Programme: Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) in Primary Education (Upgrading)
Credits: 20.00
Course Description:
The module is based upon an extended teaching practice running throughout the school year in parallel to theoretical modules that the upgrading teacher is taking online. Studies show that such extended teaching practice results in better prepared teachers. The teaching practice is enhanced by adding field supervision and mentorship components that provide upgrading teachers with a “Guided Practice Framework”. Upgrading teachers spend a full year in a classroom, working with a university-affiliated Field Supervisor, who makes regular visits to meet with, support and assess the upgrading teacher’s progress. A school experience journal and teaching are reviewed by the Field Supervisor. The upgrading teacher will also undertake a detailed observation of an individual learner to better understand learners’ social/cognitive development. The school experience journal and detailed observation of an individual learner will be uploaded on to the Virtual Learning Environment to enable quality assured assessment. Due to the extended teaching practice period, students will experience teaching at all phases of primary school, namely infant, junior and senior.
